This Saturday just as Adelaide is being transformed for Mad March with the Adelaide Fringe kicking off the night before, 2KW is hosting an event at their space above the city celebrating all that is rosé wine: 15 shades of rosé: Welcome to the harvest season
But this is no ordinary wine-tasting, DJs will be playing tunes and a variety of foods chosen to match the various rosé wines will be on hand. This is a taste-off and a rosé party.
2KW is asking attendees to dress in white and pink to match the theme of the event.
Tickets are $99 and available at: http://www.2kwbar.com.au/rose/
We interviewed Liinaa Berry, organiser of the event and sommelier at 2KW to answer your questions about the day.
You will have 3 French rosé on offer on the day (Chateau Minuty – Provence, France; Domaine Ott – Provence, and Domaine de Chatillon – Savoie). How did you select the French rosés for the event?
I have selected them because I really love Rosés from Provence. It is well-known for this pale salmon colour, dry and light style – it is summery and a reliable delicious drink. Domaine Ott is one of the best estates that produce wines of superb elegance and have other serious cuvees in their range.
Chateau Minuty is the other serious Rosé producer in the same region and it is a little lighter than Domaine Ott. Very easy to drink.
The Domaine de Chatillon is from Savoie and we don’t often see wines from this region around. It reminds me of wild strawberries, it is quite a gourmand wine and made from Savoie varieties like Mondeuse and Gamay.
I know these wines because I have worked as a sommelier for five years and I am the one hosting the event.
How many tickets are being sold for the event?
We are aiming to sell around 120-150.
What does the $99 ticket get you? A tasting glass of each? Or unlimited rosé from the 15 on offer?
It gets you entry to our rooftop, where you get your glass of wine and a tasting note brochure – you can meet the local producers and distributors and try 15 different rosés from various provenance. You will meet Sommelier Liinaa Berry who can run you through all the details about the wines if you have any questions. A spread of fresh seasonal produce of Mediterranean influence will be available.
The Skin Contact Deejays will be on the vinyl and we are expecting a dance floor. It is more than a tasting, it is a wine party. The dress code is white and pink.
What food is going to be on offer – is it paired to each rosé?
Yes, the food menu has been created to pair well with all the wines.
Is this partly a sit-down event? I see there’s a DJ so I’m guessing at some point not but wasn’t sure if there is a formal tasting part beforehand?
Nothing formal about this event. We are taking wine tasting to new levels and people can learn and appreciate wines in a very fun environment.
Who is this event for?
Anyone who wants to meet other people who like to drink wine, anyone who likes to eat, drink and dance.
Who’s going? What’s your favourite rosé?
