Next Tuesday 14th July will be Bastille Day 2020. A day to celebrate all things French.
Below, we let you know about ways to celebrate with French cuisine. While restaurants in some cities will be hosting their usual dinners, others such as Melbourne will be doing takeaway only.
On Bastille Day 2020, the Alliance Française French Film Festival will also return to screens in Adelaide, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Canberra, Hobart, Perth, Sydney – it was due to also return to Melbourne but with the strict lockdown measures resuming tonight, it won’t be returning at this stage.

You can find French foods at a number of stalls at the Adelaide Central Market. To name just a few:
- Les Deux Coqs – For traditional French rillettes, terrines, tapenades, charcuterie, patisserie and viennoiserie. Bastille Day specials include the launch of two new products, limited edition VIP (Very Important Pate Croûte) and a French Picnic Bag.
- The Smelly Cheese Shop – For the smelliest of French and Australian cheeses, French wine, ready-to-eat Raclette and Croque Monsieur (from 10am Thurs, Fri, Sat, Tues)
- Atlas Continental – French themed menu including escargot pizza!

- Dough – For house-made patisserie, croissants and baguettes

Apart from their usual Bastille Day dinner for which limited tables are left for a la carte dinner bookings, Hey Jupiter remains open throughout the day and night for French food and French Booze! Can Can dancers at 8.30pm!
Now that La Buvette is open during the day right through to the evening you can celebrate Bastille Day all day long there. For lunch there will be the menu a la carte and in the evening, La Buvette will return to a bar a vins with a tapas menu and DJ from 7pm.

La Baguette is home delivering a 3 courses meal on the 14th of July between 2pm & 6pm
It’s $65/pers including delivery
Les Bistronomes will be offering their French classics in the form of a 3 course ($80pp), 4 course ($90pp) or 7 course menu ($100pp) for lunch and dinner.
You can see the 3 and 4 course menus here but not the 7 course, which is the chef’s surprise selection.
These menus will also be available for lunch and dinner. The dinner service will also be accompanied by live accordion music.

Melbourne
As of 11:59pm 8 July 2020, Melbourne will return to Stage 3 lockdowns meaning that restaurants are only allowed to be open for takeaway. Therefore the only way to celebrate Bastille Day 2020 with French restaurant food in Melbourne is to order a takeaway and support these small businesses. Bon appetit!
Bistro Gitan & L’Hotel Gitan are doing hampers featuring classic French dishes. The 5 course hamper will be $95 for a couples hamper and $160 for a family hamper.

Bon Ap had a wonderful 5 days of revolution planned across Friday 10th, Saturday 11th, Sunday 12th, Monday 13th, Tuesday 14th. Given Melbourne’s return to lockdown these plans will sadly not go ahead.
