Starting next Tuesday 28 October, North Adelaide’s Piccadilly cinemas will turn back the clock and show the French New Wave films that completely revolutionised filmmaking, not just in France but around the world. Starting with Jean-Pierre Melville’s 1956 film Bob the Gambler/Bob le flambeur, which was a precursor to the French New Wave and finishing just before Christmas with 1974 film Céline and Julie Go Boating/Céline et Julie vont en bateau, the next 8 weeks are the perfect opportunity to see these French New Wave classic on the big screen in Adelaide.

These films from directors Jean-Pierre Melville, Alain Resnais, Jean Luc Godard, François Truffaut, Agnès Varda, Jacques Demy, Éric Rohmer and Jacques Rivette had a significant effect on filmmaking and some go on to inspire famous directors today.
The films showing in the French New Wave series are:

- Last Year at Marienbad/L’Année dernière à Marienbad – Alain Resnais.
- Breathless/À bout de souffle – Jean-Luc Godard
- Jules and Jim/Jules et Jim – François Truffaut.
- Cléo de 5 à 7/Cleo from 5 to 7 – Agnès Varda
- The Umbrellas of Cherbourg/Les Parapluies de Cherbourg – Jacques Demy
- My Night at Maud’s/Ma nuit chez Maud – Éric Rohmer
- Céline and Julie Go Boating/Céline et Julie vont en bateau – Jacques Rivette
