Make Music Day 2025 as it’s known in Australia, or La Fête de la Musique 2025 in France, is this Saturday 21 June. The annual celebration of music takes over the streets of France, and while not as big here, more and more venues are getting involved in this celebration of music.

ADELAIDE 

Adelaide Central Market hosts the most French-themed Make Music Day 2025 event, featuring live French music across two distinct performance zones: the Gouger Dining Area and the Eastern Roadway, located between Central Market Flowers and Angelakis Bros. Seafood. Louise Blackwell Quartet will perform in the Eastern Roadway zone at 10am and Mélange à Trois will perform in the Gouger Street Dining area at 11:30am.

 

Listen to some French music and treat yourself to some yummy goodies from the Les Deux Coqs stall at the Adelaide Central Market, delicious Australian and imported cheeses from Say Cheese or the Smelly Cheese Shop, or just immerse yourself in French music while doing your weekly fruit and veg shop.

 

Adelaide Railway Station will take us to the Francophonie with West African drum and dance: “A colourful pop-up of African music and drumming will delight and involve city visitors” between 11am- 1pm on Saturday 21 June.

 

La Louisiane will have live jazz, as they do nightly, between 5pm and 11:30pm on Saturday 21 June. Kallan Francis (duo) and Mike Bevan (duo) will perform.

 

North Adelaide Village will have various performances between 11:30am and 5pm including Mélange à trois from 3:30pm to 5pm. They are also performing at Adelaide Central Market in the morning.

 

Pilgrim Uniting Church will have David Drury play the organ to silent film The Hunchback of Notre Dame between 5pm and 7:30pm as part of its International Organist Series. This is a ticketed event and costs $20. Buy your tickets here

 

Rhino Room will have Afrobeat and Neo-Soul from 4pm to 8 pm with performances from Adelaide Afrobeat Collective, Jambu Loco, and Shukurani,

BRISBANE

Alliance Française de Brisbane is holding a fundraising concert with music from their French choir Chantefique. This isn’t strictly a Fête de la musique event but will take place on the eve of Make Music Day, this Friday 20 June. Purchase your tickets here.

 

The City of Moreton Bay in Brisbane has decided one day isn’t enough for Make Music Day so they’ve made it into Make Music Month. View the full program via this link

 

CANBERRA

Alliance Française de Canberra is celebrating la fête de la musique early, on Friday 20 June from 6pm to 11pm. It’s a ticketed event with live concerts and a glass of mulled wine or soft drink included in the ticket price. For more info on the line-up and to buy your tickets go to this link.

CLUNES, NSW

Alliance Française de North Coast is holding La Fête de la Musique at the Coronation Hall in Clunes Saturday 21st June from 11am to 2pm. Tickets are required and cost $30 for members and $35 for non-members. The ticket includes your choice of lunch box from Ché Bon, soup, tea, coffee. Order by email to [email protected]

 

MELBOURNE

La fête de la musique, 184 York Street, SOUTH MELBOURNE

Romain from Frencheese has organised La Fête de la musique opposite the South Melbourne Market. The idea? To recreate that unique vibe from France, where everyone comes together to sing, dance, and celebrate the classics of French music. Eat raclette, crêpes and shop at France at Home‘s pop-up supermarket.

 

The event capacity is 300 people. Third and final release tickets are now on sale and cost $17 plus booking fee and can be purchased via this link.

 

SYDNEY

While not strictly speaking a Fête de la musique event, Noria & The Parisians will perform at Foundry 616 in Ultimo on the eve of Make Music Day 2025, on Friday 20 June. Expect the vibrant spirit of gypsy jazz, delivering fiery swing and string-busting energy. This is a ticketed event and you have the option of General Admission tickets or dinner and show tickets with both standard and premium options available. Tickets are available via this link.

 

TOOWOOMBA

Alliance Française de Toowoomba is hosting the Fête de la musique on Saturday night at St Luke’s Hall.

Alliance Française de Townsville will celebrate the Fête de la Musique between 1pm and 6pm this Saturday. You’re encourage to “Bring your instrument, your voice or your good company”. Register your attendance at this link.

Alliance Française de Wagga Wagga will celebrate Make Music Day with an afternoon of free music between 3pm and 5pm on Saturday 21 June at Meccanico.
