Perth celebrates France with the Bonjour Perth Festival this weekend

This Saturday and Sunday, the Act Belong Commit Bonjour Perth Festival will take place at the Market Square Park in Subiaco.

Food

Across the villages created for the Bonjour Perth Festival, you will find a large choice of things to eat. At the Créole Village, you will find King Street Café and Ragin Cajuns’ who will be serving créole cuisine.

At the Subiaco Urban Village, you will be tempted by fresh juices, crêpes, pâtisseries as well as restaurant stalls by Meeka Restaurant and Bloody French. At the Rustic Village will be Sultan Pepper Food, crêpes, cheese, crème brulée, truffles as well as wine and charcuterie.

 

Art

At the Artists Village, you can view the art exhibition of students from Year 9, whose paintings of the Eiffel Tower will have their works exhibited on the Roberts Road fence.

In a zone named the Montmartre Area, you can peruse mosaics, jewellery, photographs, upholstery, theatre and dance to name just a few.

Another pavilion, in a name of 8 x 8 metres, named La Galerie will exhibit artists with links to France.

You can also create your own art in workshops being held throughout Saturday and Sunday. Families can do the walk/play the games set out in the Art Treasure Hunt in the Artists’ Village.

 

Wellbeing

The wellbeing zone will be held by Simone Perèle. There, you can meet with osteopaths and chiropractors. In the beauty and relaxation corner, those who wish to experience the French touch can indulge in lingerie, a hairdresser, makeup and essential oils. There will also be yoga sessions throughout Saturday and pilates on Sunday morning.

 

For children

At the WA Museum Kids Village, children will be well entertained! The village will be home to the Museum in a Container in which children can learn about French culture and amuse themselves with French activities. There will be art, story-telling, rides, magic, books, croquet and fencing.

 

The WA Museum will also be present at the Bonjour Perth Festival to promote its two exhibitions which show connections to France which are currently on show at the WA Maritime Museum. The two exhibitions, The Art of Science: Baudin’s Voyagers 1800-1804 and Return to Australia: Freycinet 1818, are on until 9 December.

 

Singing: The French Voice

On Saturday 10 November, The French Voice will be on, a competition for students of Years 7 to 9 and Years 10 to 12 who will fight for the title of The French Voice. You can see them sing on Saturday on the main stage of the Bonjour Perth Festival.

 

French bulldog parade

This Saturday at 1:40pm, there will be a French bulldog parade with a floral theme. There will be prices for the best dressed, the best attitude and the public choice. A must see!

 

Fashion

FACCI will present two categories of fashion parades at the Bonjour Perth Festival: young designers (Saturday at 1pm) and adult designers (Sunday at 1pm)

 

Sport and dance

The Bonjour Perth Festival will have pétanque demonstrations and competitions, fencing demonstrations; as well as belly dance, Mauritian dance, Basque dance, Swing and Banda dance concerts.

 

La soirée

You can enter La Soirée this Saturday 10 November for free. G Rey will play French top 40 songs for you from 6pm to 9pm. A perfect way to finish the day at the Bonjour Perth Festival!

Entry for children under 12: free

Entry for one day: $5 (with a free raffle ticket included)

Entry for both days: $7 (with a free raffle ticket included)

Bonjour Perth Festival will be open:

  • Saturday 10 November from 10am to 6pm followed by for La Soirée from 6pm to 9pm for which entry is free; and
  • Sunday 11 November from 10am to 6pm.
