Just ahead of New Caledonia Citizenship Day on the 24 September, seven Australian cities will present the New Caledonia Short Film Festival 2023. Depending on the city, up to 5 short films from New Caledonian directors will be presented. To fill you in on everything you need to know about the New Caledonia Short Film Festival, read on.

New Caledonia Short Film Festival

The New Caledonia Short Film Festival 2023 is being brought to Australia through the New Caledonia Delegation to Australia, CREIPAC and the Alliance Françaises in Australia.

 

THE CITIES

The New Caledonia Short Film Festival 2023 will be screened in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Townsville.

 

THE FESTIVAL PROGRAM

The films that comprise the New Caledonia Short Film Festival 2023 are:

  • Pierrot Lenquette from Maï Le Flochmoën

ABOUT THE NEW CALENDONIA SHORT FILM FESTIVAL FILMS

New Caledonia Short Film Festival - KanakEnglish Title: KANAK

French title: Kanak : La Naissance d’un Guerrier

 

Siwane, a young Kanak from New Caledonia, travels to France with a group of traditional dancers for a cultural exchange. Backstage in a Parisian theater, he grapples with the intrigued reactions to his culture.

 

 

New Caledonia Short Film Festival - Pierrot Lentquet

 

English Title: DETECTIVE PIERROT

French Title: Pierrot Lenquette

 

Detective Pierrot’s morning breakfast routine is disrupted when he reads a newspaper article revealing nickel in tap water. This unexpected news sets off a chain of events in this New Caledonian comedy.

English & French Titles: ILLUSIONS

 

On an abandoned island, a mother raises her frustrated daughter Gaïa. Gaïa’s boredom disappears when a strange boy arrives, turning their paradise into a hellish ordeal in this New Caledonian drama-thriller.

English Title: MY CHILDHOOD BRUISES

French Title: Les enfants oubliés

 

Loan, a 12-year-old abused child, listens to his mother’s plan to escape their family’s misery. When their father discovers the plan, Loan’s mother urges him to follow it, setting the stage for a dramatic escape.

 

 

English & French Titles: SPACE LOVERS (Music Video) – ONLY SCREENED IN ADELAIDE, BRISBANE, CANBERRA

In this New Caledonian music video, two starship pilots, Dr. Goodfellow and the Daughter of the Dragon, engage in a deadly chase before succumbing to an irresistible amorous passion, transcending war and hatred in favour of love amidst sublime planetary landscapes.
