Step into a world of French flair as Adelaide Central Market transforms into a bustling Parisian marché, brimming with music, food, and celebration for Bastille Day au marché. Savour the aroma of fresh crêpes, let live accordion music whisk you to Montmartre, and toast with a glass of champagne under a canopy of tricolour flags.
Over two days and nights, Adelaide Central Market will turn French with live entertainment, cooking demonstrations, a pop-up champagne bar and more. There are a mixture of free, ticketed and kids events and something for all tastes.
FRENCH FOOD, WINE & CHAMPAGNE
Current Producer in Residence, Friwi Crêpes, will have its delicious galettes and crêpes to satisfy both savoury and sweet cravings.
Smelly Cheese Co. will have a pop-up raclette stand for melted cheese lovers from 10am-1pm and 5-7pm on Friday 11 July, and 10am-1pm on Saturday 12 July.
The French Wine Centre pop-up bar ‘Impromptu’ will be serving champagne and delicious French wine. It will be open from 4:30 to 9pm Friday 11 July, perfect for your after work drinks.
FREE ENTERTAINMENT AT BASTILLE DAY AU MARCHÉ
Live music will whisk you away to France, and make you forget you’re in Adelaide. There will be music by Sounds Continental (Friday 10am-12pm, 5-6pm, and 7-8:30pm, Saturday 11am-1pm), Adelaide String Duo (Friday 11am-1pm, Saturday 10am-12pm) and Mélange à trois (Friday 12-1pm, and Saturday 10am-12pm)
Other roving entertainment include Cancan dancers on Friday and Saturday and Marie Antoinette on Saturday. A highlight of the event will be a performance by State Opera soprano Jessica Mills (5.30pm Friday).
Le Cordon Bleu will do a cooking demonstration of a French pastry creation in the Community Kitchen at 6pm Friday night, and Valérie Henbest of Smelly Cheese Co. will prepare something cheesy at midday Saturday.

Kids will also be entertained at Bastille Day au marché with a craft workshop from Friday morning (9:30am-12pm), and face painting Saturday morning (9:30am-12pm).
TICKETED EVENTS FOR BASTILLE DAY AU MARCHÉ
Go on a French market tour ($20-$30 – 3 sessions Friday, 2 on Saturday) led by Arnaud Bénassy (who you may know from his French swearing classes). Start with a délicieux glass of French champagne (Friday only), this fun tour will take you for a chat and tastings at French institutions the Smelly Cheese Co. and Les Deux Coqs. You’ll learn a bit of français, learn how to sing La Marseillaise, discover interesting facts about Bastille Day and taste some of the Market’s most authentic French fromage, charcuterie and patisserie.

Finally, Saturday night, when the market is closed, Smelly Cheese Co. will host Bastille Day Cheese After Dark ($130), an exclusive after-hours soirée celebration of the three C’s: cheese, champagne, and caviar. They warn that you might become addicted to the best the world has to offer.
