WHICH WINE TO DRINK WITH THE LA BÛCHE DE NOËL?
Ashleigh from Clos Cachet Fine Wines recommends pairing the Trapadis – Vin Doux Naturel Rasteau “Grenat Red” 2022 (90% Grenache, 10% Carignan) with the Bûche de noël
She says:
A naturally sweet wine such as a Vin Doux is the perfect complement to the Bûche de noël with its greedy fruit-filled palate that draws out all the spices and cocoa of the cake. Being a Grenache dominant cuvee it is an indulgent wine that can follow on wonderfully from a large feast at Christmas time too, so once you’ve finished your bottle of Pinot Noir, you can dive straight into this beautiful bottle along with the cake.

There are notes of black berries (blueberry, blackcurrant) and flowers (violet) on the nose. On the palate, it surprises with its finesse, its natural expression and its greediness, with this fruit coulis side. Then there is the peppery finish which is irresistible!
Anything else you’d like to add.
Alternatively a classic Sauternes would also be the perfect accompaniment to round out a nice Christmas feast. The Chateau d’Arche range are perfect Semillon nectars that can liven the palate up with stone fruits to counter the chocolatey goodness of the Bûche de noël.
Twee Nguyen from Dynamic Wines recommends pairing the Stanton & Killeen Classic Rutherglen Muscat Non-Vintage with the Bûche de noël.
She says:
This Muscat is incredibly rich, silky, and festive—an ideal partner for the decadent flavours of a traditional Bûche de Noël. Its luscious sweetness and intense caramelised fruit notes complement chocolate, coffee, chestnut, and praline elements while adding luxurious warmth and complexity. The wine enhances the dessert without being overshadowed by it.

- Concentrated flavours of raisin, toffee, burnt caramel, and candied fruit
- A velvety, unctuous texture that mirrors the creaminess of the bûche
- Warm spice and subtle nuttiness that feel perfectly seasonal
- Long, lingering finish that makes the pairing feel indulgent and celebratory
Anything else you’d like to add?
Rutherglen Muscat is a true Australian icon, and its festive richness makes it a standout choice for Christmas desserts. This wine is top-rated 95 Points by Decanter Magazine, from one of Australia’s oldest family-owned wineries and famous for their world class Muscat and fortified wines. Served slightly chilled, it lifts the dessert and turns a slice of Bûche de Noël into a luxurious holiday moment.
Pierre Stock from Pierre Stock Wine Selections recommends pairing the Terres de Fagayra – Maury Vins Doux Naturels Tuilé Hors d’âge – grenache noir, carignan, schists & calcoschists.
He says:
It is fresh, ripe and creamy with a balance of sweetness and acidity, red fruit and citrus notes. It pairs perfectly with chocolate, so we are trying to find a complement.

Fermentation is stopped by mutage (adding neutral alcohol to the must) to preserve some of the natural sugars. Aged for many years in an oxidative environment, often in old oak casks.
Anything else to add?
It’s very, very rare.
