Get your music fix around Australia at La Fete de la Musique 2019

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Today is La Fete de la Musique 2019. La Fete de la Musique has been held in France on 21 June, the day of the Summer Solstice (for them, Winter Solstice for us) ever since 1982. It has become an international event with many countries around the world also celebrating free music for all on that day.

While not anywhere near as big in Australia as in France, there are places for you to listen to music and specific events all over the country. We’ve set out some of the key events below.

ADELAIDE

Alliance Française d’Adelaide & La Buvette

The Alliance Française d’Adelaide will be partnering with La Buvette for La Fete de la musique with an 80s theme including 80s cocktails.

CANBERRA

The Alliance Française of Canberra is hosting an event for la Fete de la Musique 2019 from 4:30pm.

They have a few different artists playing as well as a variety of food stalls to treat your tastebuds.

Tickets cost $10 on the day or $8 pre-sale (and a further 15% discount if you are a member and purchase pre-sale).

LISMORE, NSW

Alliance Française Côte du Nord

The Alliance Francaise Cote du Nord is hosting a French food and French Music night but this has already sold out. Pop yourself on the Alliance Française Côte du Nord mailing list to ensure you don’t miss out next year.

PERTH

Alliance Française de Perth

The AF Perth will be hosting La fete de la musique on Sunday 23 June at Perth Mess Hall @ Old Swan Barracks.

The Alliance Française has been presenting the Music Day in Perth for the last 10 years. We would like to give musicians, such as music students, hobby and amateur musicians and professionals, a chance to play for and to anyone. Respecting the idea of democratisation, a mix of different music styles and levels is welcome.

Again this year we want to hold La Fête de la Musique in Perth with 10 amazing groups of amateur musicians who will play live music from 4pm to 10pm. The event is free.

Come and enjoy the electric mix of different types of music and local musicians, from rock to electro, from young to old! The Old Swan Barracks has just received a renewed interior and exterior look and offers besides the casual bar, a cozy atmosphere and a billiard area inside as well as a space for food trucks with French raclette cheese, crèpes and other international delicacies outside!

OTHER EVENTS AROUND AUSTRALIA

Australia’s version of La Fete de la Musique is called Make Music Day and you will find many other events occurring under that umbrella at this website: https://makemusicaustralia.org.au/events/
