After its acclaimed Australian debut in 2022, Piaf! The Show returns to Australia this May, offering audiences another opportunity to experience the magic of one of the world’s most successful French musical tributes. If you didn’t see it the first time around, make sure you don’t miss out this time or you definitely won’t be able to truthfully say Je ne regrette rien!
Having captivated over a million spectators across more than 50 countries, including sold-out performances at Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Olympia in Paris, the production traces Édith Piaf’s extraordinary journey from the streets of Belleville to international stardom. More than a concert, it’s an intimate theatrical experience enriched by projections of rare archival photos and videos, immersing viewers in Piaf’s world.
Taking centre stage is Nathalie Lermitte, whose voice and presence bring a raw authenticity to the role. As we wrote in our review of the 2022 performance, “Piaf is inimitable and Lermitte doesn’t try to imitate her” but there is one striking moment where, with just a change of lighting, a wig, and a new dress, Lermitte becomes a vision of Piaf as we remember her.
Lermitte is joined on stage by a talented live band, including accordionist Germain Viale, whose solo moments are as captivating as they are quintessentially French. The simple set design transports audiences to various Parisian settings—from a park bench under a lamplight to a cosy café terrace.
Audiences can expect all the beloved classics, La Vie en Rose, Non, je ne regrette rien, Milord, and L’Hymne à l’amour, performed with elegance and emotion. Read our review if you don’t mind a spoiler.
Piaf! The Show returns to Australia with its tour starting in Sydney on 15 May, before travelling to Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide. Don’t miss your chance to be swept away by the music and spirit of Edith Piaf.
