Where to find the Bûche de Noël in Australia in 2020

You may not be able to celebrate Christmas in France but you can still have a Bûche de Noël in Australia. In this article, we let you know where you can buy the Bûche de noel around the country with some even offering a variety of different flavours.

Bûche de Noël history

The Bûche de Noël is a traditional French Christmas cake served at the end of the Christmas meal. Bûche means log in French (and Noël is Christmas) and the cake symbolises the log that in previous times were burned in the fireplace during the Christmas period (remember it’s cold in Europe this time of year). There are various theories about why the logs were burned varying from that they were to ward off bad luck and darkness or to ensure a good harvest. Beliefs included that ash from the log protected against lightning strikes, and coals from the burned log were used throughout the year in various medicinal potions.

With houses moving away from hearths towards more modern ovens for cooking, the log moved from something that was burned to something that was confectioned and savoured instead. A far more accessible and yummier Christmas tradition. And we’re lucky that we can find and continue the tradition of the Bûche de Noël in Australia.





Les Deux Coqs


Two different flavours available for the 2020 bûches de noël at Les Deux Coqs

  • chocolate & Hazelnut crème au beurre ;
  • berries Mousse & Meringue

They come in one size to serve 8 people and cost $59


You can order online or via the shop at the Adelaide Central Markets.


The 2020 bûches de noël are available from 04/12 until 20/12.


Mulot’s Patisserie


Mulot’s is again making the Bûche de Noël as well the bûche glacée.

Sizes are available from 2 serves up to 20 serves and the price depends on the size.


Sucre Patisserie


Keva from Sucre Patisserie has created a special for the 2020 Bûche de Noel which is only available for orders for Christmas Eve collection.

It is a coconut, lemongrass and lime Bûche: Coconut dacquoise with a lime creme centre, surrounded by a light lemongrass mousse. Finished with a glaze, decorated with chocolate decor, coconut & a Merry Christmas topper.


Coconut, Lemongrass & Lime Christmas Bûche only available for 24 December collection.

Le Caprice Pâtisserie


Le Caprice Patisserie has two flavours for its 2020 bûches de noël:

  • Hazelnut & Almond Dacquoise, Smooth Lemon Curd & Praline Mousseline
  • Chocolate Biscuit, Crunchy Pecan Praline, Vanilla Crémeux, Dark Chocolate Mousse


They are available in two sizes:

  • 16 cm ->$50 (4/6 pax)
  • 24cm -> $65 (6/10 pax)

Orders must be placed before the 20th of December (for the 24th of December). All orders must be paid before pick up.





Jean-Pascal Patisserie


Jean-Pascal Pâtisserie is selling traditional Bûches de Noël (Vanilla/Chocolate). They will have a choice of new “more exotic” ones. Details not available at time of publication.


Jean-Pascal’s bûches come in two sizes:

  • 18 cm: $37.80
  • 24 cm: $50.40




Choukette Fine Pastries


Their 2020 Bûches de Noel come in 3 flavours:

  • Chocolate (butter cream)
  • Praline (Butter cream)
  • Cherry (Cherry mousse, pistachio cremeux, almond biscuit)


Buche de Noel in Australia - MELBOURNE - Choukette

It is available in 3 sizes:

  • Individual ($6.70)
  • 6 people ($34)
  • 10 people ($52)

La Parisienne Pates


All of the Bûches de Noël from La Parisienne Pates are gluten-free. They are available in 5 flavours:

  • coconut craquant praliné;
  • orange et chocolate;
  • Bûche Dulce soft pecan and white chocolate sponge;
  • hazelnut with passionfruit and banana;
  • lemon and raspberry.

Les bûches cost $65 each 6 to 8 slices.

Orders are required by the 18th December with availability until 23rd December. Please call La Parisienne Pates on 9820 2818 to order.


Millstone Pâtisserie


Millstone Pâtisserie has a Bûche de Noël comprised of chocolate sponge roulade, chestnut vanilla cream & sour cherry compote

It costs $95 and serves 10


ORDER CUT OFF DATE: Please be aware that Christmas orders need to be placed by the 17th of December – Millstone will be open until the 24th of December with a daily selection of Christmas goodies, pastries and other delicious products.

Please be aware they require 72 hours’ notice for orders. You can collect your order or they offer delivery for a small fee to selected areas around Melbourne.


Sucre du Jour


Sucre du Jour has 2 different flavours for their Bûche de Noël 2020:

  • Salted Caramel;
  • and Passionfruit.

It comes in a 7 inches long log and feeds up to 8 people easily. It costs $58.


Orders can be made via the online store at www.sucredujourofficial.com. They are currently taking orders for the Bûche de Noël at the moment all the way up to Christmas.




Chez Jean-Claude Patisserie


Chez Jean-Claude you can find the Bûche de Noël in a variety of different flavours:

  • Choc Grand Marnier
  • Praline
  • Kirsch
  • Chestnut
  • Chocolate

They are available in 3 sizes/prices:

  • 12cm $30
  • 21cm $47.50
  • 27cm $60

Père Bakery


Père Bakery’s Bûche de Noel 2020 is a chocolate sponge filled with chocolate custard and raspberries, topped with almond chocolate truffle pine cones.

It is approximately 25cm long and costs $56.


Orders need to be either emailed to [email protected] or phoned in – 9293 4345.

Last order Friday 18th, though if possible, they will still allow orders to be processed after this date. Last pickups 23 + 24th December.


Wild Bakery


Wild Bakery offers the Bûche de Noel in 3 different flavours and dietary options:

  • Raspberry & Lemon
  • Cherry and Chocolate (gluten free)
  • Mango, Passionfruit & Coconut (vegan)







Individual slices are available every day in store, but for Christmas orders, they have one size that serves 8 portions for $48.



Wild Bakery requests that you order the old-fashioned way, either in person at our shop in South Freo or on the phone, but hurry as they sell out most years by around the 15th Dec.







La Maison du Pâtissier


Another place to find the Bûche de Noël in Australia is on the Sunshine Coast at La Maison du Pâtissier. Their bûche de noël is available in 3 flavours:

  • Mt Blanc (chestnut and Cassis- GF)
  • Mr T (Matcha mousse with berry cremeux- GF)
  • Mango (Mango/coconut/passionfruit mousse- GF)


They can easily serve 8 to 10 people and cost $59


Order online through their business page or Instagram. Deadline is the 12th of December.




Francois Artisan Baker









This is another place to find the bûches de noël in Australia in a variety of flavours:

  • Black Forest Bûche: chocolate biscuit filled with chocolate and plain whipped fresh cream and some sour Cherie topped with chocolate curved and also topped with our Christmas (meringue mushrooms, snow men) and not forgetting all our little Christmas sign and Santa Claus
  • Lemon meringue Bûche vanilla sponge filled with a light lemon curd and finished with or traditional meringue and of course all the other decorations like the Black Forest
  • Chocolate Bûche chocolate biscuit filled with a light chocolate butter cream topped also with butter cream chocolate and all the Christmas decoration
  • Hazelnut Bûche on a hazelnut biscuit filled with crunchy hazelnut butter cream and topped with some hazelnut craquelin and all our Christmas decorations

Ganache Pâtisserie



Ganache Patisserie have a variety of flavours for the Bûche de Noël:

  • chocolate and pear;
  • champagne and raspberry; and
  • coffee and baileys and pecan


They are available in two sizes:

  • Small (serves 6-8) $36
  • Large (serves 8-10) $46

La Boulangerie


La Boulangerie’s bûche de noël serves 10 people.


Last orders on 18 December but these will be available (if you’re early) daily until Christmas


La Renaissance

The La Renaissance 2020 bûches de noël are avalable in the following flavours:

  • Traditional Chocolate
  • Raspberry and Passionfruit
  • Mango and Coconut




They are available in three sizes:

  • Small (serves 4-6) $42,
  • Medium (serves 6-8) $58
  • Large (serves 8-10) $69

They recommend that you pre-order for collection on Christmas Eve by the 20th December. Orders need to be placed 48hrs in advance on their website; but you can also order in store and over the phone.



Le Breton Pâtisserie


Dominique from Le Breton Pâtisserie will soon put the 2020 bûche de noël on his facebook page

A variety of different flavours will be available:

  • Chocolat moelleux Ganache grand marnier,
  • Chocolate Ganache fresh Raspberries cream centre,
  • Coffee Moka.
  • Hazelnut,
  • Black forest.


And the bûche de noël will be available in 3 sizes:

  • Small 6 personnes $32.00
  • Moyenne 10 personnes $48.00
  • Large 16 personnes $58.00
