From pyro-performances to sonic dreamscapes, Dark Mofo 2025 beckons the bold with a program steeped in ritual, sensation, and shadow. Among the immersive chaos, in just 6 weeks time, artists from France and the Francophonie bring their own distinct alchemy—blending sound, light, sculpture, and mythology into a series of unforgettable encounters. Whether it’s field-recorded ambience, flaming sculptures, or kinetic light storms, these works cross borders—geographical and conceptual—offering a glimpse into a beautifully surreal underworld.
La danse macabre: Claudio Comté (CHE) – FREE
A blistering allegory of capitalist apathy: Comté’s video work depicts two pianists performing Saint-Saëns’ symphonic meditation on death, while a wooden sculpture is consumed by flames and a motocross rider jumps through the inferno.
Mirrorscape: Théo Mercier – TICKETED
An immense landscape in the wake of disaster. Read more here EXHIBITION UNTIL 16 FEB 2026
They’ve dug up Mona’s old library, figuratively speaking, and had the hole filled by Théo Mercier—a French artist and stage director with a captivating process and a crack team of sand sculptors. His immense installation is constructed, on site, from sand sourced from a local quarry.
SORA: Nonotak (FRA/JPN) – FREE
Inside a dark warehouse, kinetic light beams undulate at the whim of an invisible wind, summoning the hypnotic landscape of the Japanese night sky.
VOID: Joshua Serafin (PHL/BEL) (SOLD OUT BUT THERE MAY BE A WAITLIST)
In darkness, a genderless deity unfurls, birthing a speculative creation myth through dance, sound and ancient queer mythology
Borderlands (SOLD OUT BUT THERE MAY BE A WAITLIST)
Félicia Atkinson (FRA) among other acts
The outermost edges of experimental ambience, in a sit-down listening experience.
Re Félicia Atkinson: “Electro-acoustic collages laced with field recordings and layered instrumentation.”
